Medical Detox Program

Duration: 3–7 days | 24/7 Medical Supervision

What Is Medical Detox?

Medical detoxification is the first critical step in addiction recovery. At MDBD Recovery's Novato facility, our medical detox program provides safe, medically supervised withdrawal management under the care of experienced physicians and nurses. Detox clears your body of harmful substances while our clinical team manages withdrawal symptoms to keep you as comfortable and safe as possible.

Attempting to detox without medical supervision can be dangerous and even life-threatening for certain substances, particularly alcohol, opioids, and benzodiazepines. MDBD Recovery's on-site medical team monitors vital signs around the clock and uses medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to ease withdrawal symptoms and reduce cravings.

Our Detox Process

1

Clinical Assessment

Comprehensive medical evaluation to determine the safest detox protocol based on substance history, health status, and individual risk factors.

2

Stabilization

Dual Diagnosis Treatment

Integrated Care for Addiction & Mental Health

What Is Dual Diagnosis?

Dual diagnosis refers to the co-occurrence of a substance use disorder and a mental health condition. At MDBD Recovery, we recognize that addiction rarely exists in isolation. Research shows that nearly half of all individuals with a substance use disorder also struggle with a mental health condition such as depression, anxiety, PTSD, or bipolar disorder. Treating one without the other dramatically increases the risk of relapse.

MDBD Recovery's dual diagnosis program in Novato addresses both conditions simultaneously through an integrated treatment approach. Our psychiatric and clinical teams work together to develop comprehensive care plans that treat the whole person — not just the symptoms.

Mental Health Conditions We Treat

Depression

Major depressive disorder and persistent depressive disorder often co-occur with substance abuse, requiring integrated treatment for effective recovery.

Anxiety Disorders

Generalized anxiety, panic disorder, and social anxiety frequently accompany addiction and respond well to combined therapeutic approaches.

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder

PTSD and trauma are common underlying factors in substance use disorders. Our trauma-informed care addresses root causes of addiction.

Bipolar Disorder

Mood instability associated with bipolar disorder requires careful psychiatric management alongside addiction treatment.

Our Integrated Approach

MDBD Recovery's dual diagnosis treatment integrates addiction therapy and psychiatric care under one roof at our Novato campus:

  • Simultaneous Treatment: Addiction and mental health conditions are treated at the same time by a coordinated care team
  • Psychiatric Care: On-site psychiatric evaluation, diagnosis, and medication management
  • Specialized Therapy: CBT, DBT, and trauma-focused therapies addressing both conditions
  • Medication Management: Careful psychiatric medication prescribing and monitoring by our medical team
  • Holistic Wellness: Yoga, meditation, fitness, and mindfulness practices support mental health recovery
  • Aftercare Planning: Ongoing psychiatric and addiction support after completing primary treatment
